ihop glass vase

I visited a glassblowing atelier in småland that has been making glass works for many generations over 120 years. The way the craftsmen handled softened glass and shaped it with their breath was divinely mystical like a religious ritual. Inspired by this scene, I wanted to incorporate the process itself in the final design of the vase. Ihop is a Swedish word meaning ‘together’. The vase consists of 2 parts assembled together. The bottom part is a fixed form created by designed molding and the top part is an organic form that naturally occurs through the glassblowing process. Each vase has an unique top part led by the sensibilities of the glassblower. These two conflicting shapes are attached together and become one vase, visually emphasizing each other's forms.

Ihop's green colour has both a refreshing feeling and a massivity. Depending on the viewing angle of the vase and the temperature difference of sunlight, it derives various tones of green. The green gradation in the upper part of Ihop is changing depending on the thickness of the glass.
